Subscribe and Get the Skinney comes to you.

I really appreciate visitors to this blog and I try to have things here that make you want to come back. I know as a reader of blogs that I can’t visit every blog I read everyday. So, I subscribe to the RSS feed from each blog I like.

RSS stands for real simple syndication. It is a way to send anything new from a website to a central location controlled by the person reading the blog or interested in the site. To do this means the subscriber must have a place either on their computer or on the web to aggregate or collect the feeds. It works much like email.

Think of this blog as a magazine. To get a subscription, you use rss. For a real magazine you could buy it from a news stand (like visiting here regularly) or you could have it sent to you through the mail. Rss is like having the content of this “magazine” sent to an address you specify. Your feed reader would be the “home address” you would use to have it delivered.

I have used Bloglines and Google reader. I like both and each has its pros and cons. There are others that can be found by entering the words “rss aggregator” into a Google search box.

To subscribe to this blogs “feed” or to automatically receive any new information posted here you have to click on the rss subscribe button on the first page. This is an orange rectangle with diagonal white stripes like the one at the top of the left column on this page. If you click on my button, a new page will open with the other buttons you just saw on it. To send your subscription to your feed reader you would click on it’s button. I would click on the button that has the white cross on the blue background and the words “add to Google” (third from top in far left column) written on it. You would click on your feed button.

After you clicked on your specific button, your feed reader would open to its login page. You would login and the new feed, in this case Get the Skinney would be listed. You then just choose the folder you want it to appear in and everytime something is published on Get the Skinney it will be sent to that folder for you to read at your convenience.

If this is too much for you alone, just send the new postings to your email inbox. Each new article called a post, would appear as a new headline in your inbox.
