What to eat to become a better you?

I ask many of my patients what they want to do most with their health? Many of them tell me they want to loose 10 or 15 or more pounds. I like to tease them and ask 15 pounds of what? It is meant as a joke, sort of!

What they really want to do is increase their knowledge, make a better plan and then do it despite any problem that may occur. This plan would include exercise, positive self talk, tracking compliance to the plan and a great diet.

How do you know what to eat? There are so many diets out there and all of them want you to use their secret. Our knowledge of diets and their effect on our metabolism is increasing but there really aren’t any secrets.

Where can you go for nutrition information that is good and reliable. Try the USDA food guide called my pyramid. The link will take you to a page called Steps to a Healthier You. Review the link called Steps to a Healthier Weight and Inside the Pyramid.

I went through the process including the tracking areas for eating and exercise. Based on the analysis there I need to eat a little more and I need to step up my exercise.

I made a plan and I looked at all the reasons why I might not get it done. Then I decided what I would do if I encountered any of those problems. Most importantly I looked at my commitment level. On a scale of 1-10 I decided my commitment was 9.

There is an important rule I am forgetting here, people are more interested in themselves than they are in you. I was displaying that. So, how will you know, you will read the information and create a diet, then a shopping list, and then a menu plan. You will create a plan for exercise and you will begin to execute your plan.

Did you think I would just tell you what to eat? That would take me a couple of hours one on one. We can do that. I will gladly try to help you as your wellness coach. You can figure it out for yourself too. It takes work, patience and asking knowledgeable people for help.

My plan requires me to eat about 40 pounds of food a week, 12 lb of dairy, 4.5 lb of meat and beans, 8-9 lbs of fruit and the same amount of vegetables with a little miscellaneous foods and 3-4 lb of grains (whole grains).

Figure out your diet and exercise plan, decide your level of motivation which must be at least a 7 of 10. (You must have a motive 4 action i.e. motiv ation.) Then it is living your plan day to day.
