Action Cures Fear, Top 5 things for you to do

Action Cures Fear. It is a statement and a principle of David Schwartz, author of The Magic of Thinking Big. If you are afraid, you have to do something about it. Here are 5 action suggestions. You can find more.

1. If you know what you want, do something about it. Not something rash or poorly thought out. Something that will make a difference. Don’t do something because it is safe, do it because you want to.

2. Action and inaction are habits. Develop and cultivate the habit of action. Don’t mistake busy-ness for definitive action. Don’t do something, do the right thing for you.

3. Tim Ferris author of The Four Hour Work Week, says you might not know what you want but you can figure it out by mentally eliminating all the things you don’t want. Then, consider the worst case scenario. How would you recover? Most of the time you could get back to where you were with minimal effort. Don’t let fear of failure stop you.

4. Applied knowledge is power. You probably don’t have as much money as you want or maybe need. You have a fear of money. You fear not having enough, you are afraid to spend or to not spend and “deny” your loved ones what they want. You don’t study money and people who make it. You don’t pay the price, you are inactive. If you want more money, care for what you have, use it to make more and learn about how money works and use some of those methods to accumulate more.

My Dad gave me a tip. He was taking his money out of CDs and buying stock in companies that pay a dividend. The company had to have less than 25% debt and have paid at least a 4% dividend in each of the last 10 years and had to be highly rated by Value Line. The divided is tax free if you hold the stock 2 years. That was a good suggestion and my Dad acted on it. I am not giving you financial advice. Just an example of someone who studied money and found a way to make some as safely as he thought possible.

5. Read about successful people who took action. What problem did they have? What did they try before they were successful? What lessons were they required to learn before they were successful?

Nature gives you only what you need. If you need tough hands, work and you get callouses. If you need strong muscles, challenge them with heavy weight regularly.

If you need to do what you are afraid to do, find out where you are in the change process and do what is needed to take the next step. Take action. If you are at an “I can’t” stage, decide and learn what all the benefits are until you have the attitude “I would like to change sometime”. Then take action by experimenting. Learn how others have been successful doing the same thing and try it for a short period. See how you do. Keep a brief daily log of your thoughts, your efforts and what happened.

Then regroup. Look at your successes, your trials and the benefits of success. Write a plan for success and one for if you start to fail. Then set a date, list all the benefits of making the effort and begin. Just go for it. You will be less afraid if you try even if you don’t achieve all the results you want initially.
