Recipe for Weight Loss Disaster
Recipes have a list of ingredients that have a unique way of being combined for the desired outcome. It is well known that dieters yoyo often losing and then regaining the lost weight plus some. Just like making a food recipe, there is a recipe or combination of ingredients that combine for this disaster.
Here is the list of ingredients and instructions to bring about weight loss and then regain it.
Select a NEW diet. The latest and greatest way to lose weight fast
Get really excited about it and buy all the necessary items, except one you don’t think will help, to create success
1.Lose the first 5 pounds in 5 days.
2.Start to feel very tired.
3.Go out to lunch with friends and find nothing on the menu that is on your diet - eat just a little food - you can’t disappoint your friends!
4.Get on the scale only to discover you gained 1/2 a pound that night.
5.”FIND” yourself in front of the refrigerator that night eating directly out of the pint of ice cream you were saving for guests - its your favorite flavor
6.The next day”Since you have blown it anyway” you eat what you want. Result weight gain of another 1/2 a pound.
7.You feel bad all week end. Even though you are on your diet again, you feel “not excited” and tired.
8.You have lost 6 pounds but are “stuck” on a plateau and can’t get off for 8 days.
9.After a month of the same foods everyday, you give up after losing only 8 pounds. You regain this over the next 3-4 weeks.
This recipe lacks several ingredients. It contains too much expectation that something outside (”a diet”) is the answer. It contains too little -goal setting, -problem solving, - self monitoring.

I’m aiming to lose 2 pounds a week from tomorrow. Its taken me a while to get mentally set. The motivating factor is hitting five ohhhhhhh in June. I’ve got various sources to guide me (and I’ve given up the sauce!) but I’ve added you to my feeder. David.

Whenever I look at a new diet or exercise I always stop and think to myself, “Is it sustainable?” Because if it isn’t, then it’s really just a waste of time. As you say, any results you do achieve will be short-lived.

I agree with Lori, it’s all about making lifestyle changes and whether that means getting off of refined sugar if you’re addicted to it, resolving emotional eating issues, or adding 30 minutes of walking to your schedule each day, it needs to be a change in lifestyle.
Short term dieting to get off the pounds just doesn’t work long term - almost always results in regaining the weight, at least that’s been my experience in the past.
