The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality -AHRQ- has check lists available for men over 50 and women over 50. Both list have some similarities.
The basic recommendations are

- Get to and stay at and ideal body weight
- Consume no more than one alcoholic beverage per day
- Be physically active
- Eat a healthy diet
- Ask your doctor if you should take aspirin
- Keep you immunizations up to date
Then men and women diverge:
- If your Mom or Sister had breast cancer, talk to your Doctor about medication to prevent it.
- If you are post-menopause (no period for 12 consecutive months) talk to your doctor about your need for estrogen therapy
Some of the screening tests are the same
- Diabetes, Hypertension, BMI, Blood pressure, Cholesterol, HIV, STDs, andColon Cancer screen
There are a few unique to women like
- Screening for breast and cervical cancer
The idea is to be informed and get things done that make a difference. This check list is a good one to discuss with your Doctor. Most of these things are quite easy to arrange and many are quite easy.Don’t put off your screening.
