Wellness Tip of the Day #10

By Bruce Bair

startpath Wellness Tip of the Day #10Is there such a thing as a carbohydrate deficiency disease. I ask this because I am on a low carbohydrate diet. I do eat a little more fat and protein but those are not emphasized.  Carbohydrates are de-emphasized.

I still get some carbs, through vegetables but I am eating like a hunter gatherer would have eaten, sort of. I am not out killing game or foraging for food, but I am eating protein, vegetables, many of them raw, and fat in the form of coconut oil and olive oil and animal fat – sorry all you veggie foodies, that diet is not for me.

There are deficiency diseases of fat and of protein but not carbohydrate. For fat I get a Google search of >2million sites. For Protein I get >52million. Carbohydrate brings up none.  There are only carbohydrate metabolic diseases like diabetes or inborn errors of metabolism but no states of carbohydrate deficiency diseases.

You could never eat carbs and be just fine. It would be boring and not sweet at all but healthy. If you think it isn’t healthy, find me an example of lack of carbohydrate being unhealthy. It isn’t. You can make glucose from protein. Fat is not the boogeyman! It isn’t going to hurt you unless you eat it with lots of carbs like flour, or fat and sugar mixed – don’t say yuck! You eat icing on cake don’t you?  Blended butter and sugar right.

OK, I don’t want you to quit eating carbohydrates. I want you to figure out how many you ate yesterday or on the last normal eating day you had. How many grams of carbohydrates? If you are over 100 you are high. Most people get about 40 grams from one regular 12 ounce soda. Sugar! The tortillas I used to buy had 30-40 grams and Ezekiel bread has 15gm/slice. At least the stuff I saw at Trader Joe’s last week did when I looked at the label.

So, Who is going to share? How many grams of carbohydrate did you eat yesterday? Leave me a comment.

If you want to see how many carbs are in your food here is a site for you to use.  Before you go there, sign up for my audio seminars and my blog via email. Tell me what you would like to learn, round up 5 friends and we will have a private seminar.
