Fitness - the key to longevity

    Everyone wants to look like a movie star. Who is your choice? Who would you choose to emulate?  As for me, I can think of a few I would like to emulate their success but not their looks or their health.  I have realized that fitness is the most important factor. It is a cross roads of several things including attitude, diet, and conditioning.

    It is documented that a person that is fit no matter what their weight, is healthier than the thin person who is less fit.  Fitness is measured by 3 factors. Dynamic strength which is how well you can maintain your physical strength in a hard task. It can be shoveling, lifting boxes, or a wrestling match. Static strength is how much you can lift once. Last, endurance is the combination of dynamic strength and heart stamina like carrying a very heavy load over a long distance. It is all relative, it is about being as tough as you have to be for as long as you have to be.

    If you work out and develop your heart and muscles, you can have this and not be at your ideal body weight. You have a better chance to avoid an early death and to fight off disease if you are fit and over weight then if you are unfit and at your ideal weight. That is fact not opinion.

    Why am I taking up your time with this?  Because more of my readers are over weight than ideal weight. If you think you are more healthy at a lower weight but are inactive and weak, you are wrong. Work on fitness. Being fit increases your basal metabolic rate - the energy you need and use at total rest - which makes you fit.

    Walking, resistance exercise and developing stamina with supervision will make you live a longer, healthier and more productive life. You should be more satisfied with yourself if you  become more fit.  Now this can’t happen if you are morbidly obese, but if you are, you can move toward your goal, one day at a time. Don’t let someone tell you it is not possible.
