It is important for post-menopausal women to get a vitamin D3 supplement that does not contain any Vitamin A. A common source for Vit D is Cod Liver Oil. It is loaded with
Vitamin A and the label does not have to say so. The label on your vitamin D3 should say either "Contains No Vitamin A" or "Made from Lanolin". Shhep can make Vitamin D3 in their wool
and it can be extracted from the lanolin. I take Blue Bonnet brand of Vitamin D3 made from lanolin. You are right about the association of low vitamin D3 levels and various cancers.
I now check people who have lots of ache and pains and no good reason to have them for vitamin d3 levels (25OH VitaminD is the test you do) because people often have pain when level are in the 20's rather than 40 or above.

Hi Bruce,

I keep reading that Vitamin D3 (the sunshine vitamin) may play a big part in keeping us healthy, pain-free and perhaps even cancer-free. Too many people have been scared to stay out of the sun. Of course, we don't want to get burned but sunshine on our skin has so many benefits! Supplementing with D3 is good for us Northerners and others who don't get enough sunshine on their skin for one reason or another. I have seen D3 related to reduction in breast cancer. Inexpensive supplementation won't hurt and could definitely help! And apparently a sufficient amount is 2-5,000 units a day. That is much less than the sun produces when it hits our skin on a summer day. 400 units is enough to prevent scurvy but not the "bigger" diseases.
