Subscription Benefits or what is RSS.

Posted by: Bruce Bair | Comments Comments Off

If you visit here often there is a way you can receive information that appears here automatically. It won’t cost you a thing and you can stop it anytime no questions asked.

You can subscribe. There are both email and rss links available. If you are unfamiliar with RSS let me explain.

RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. It is a way to deliver content from one website to a place it is aggregated. If you have a “front page” with information on it much like iGoogle or Yahoo then you are using rss. The rss “feed” from this blog could be received to your home page by clicking on the rss buttons on my home page. One is blue and has diagonal stripes and appears in the upper right hand corner. The other is the same size is orange-colored with stripes and is in the lower far right-hand column.

If you have a separate reader like Google Reader, Bloglines, News Gator etc… you have the option of sending your rss subscription there.

What if you don’t have a fancy frontpage and don’t know what an aggregator is and don’t want to know? NO PROBLEM! Sign up to have it delivered every 3-7 days to your email. You would get an email from Feedblitz with the new articles embedded. Just click on the article to read it, save it for later, delete it or cancel it with the click of a mouse.

I am encouraging my readers to subscribe. I will be offering special perks to those who do starting next month. If you don’t subscribe, you win’t know about them because these perks will come to you in the feed and not on the blog.

If you have questions, ask me in the comments or email me, I have my contact info on a page that is labeled “Contact Bruce”. This option is near the top of the middle column.

Let me know what you think and most importantly, subscribe. Its free and its easy to do.

I really appreciate visitors to this blog and I try to have things here that make you want to come back. I know as a reader of blogs that I can’t visit every blog I read everyday. So, I subscribe to the RSS feed from each blog I like.

RSS stands for real simple syndication. It is a way to send anything new from a website to a central location controlled by the person reading the blog or interested in the site. To do this means the subscriber must have a place either on their computer or on the web to aggregate or collect the feeds. It works much like email. Read More→

To provide commentary, opinion and advice about health, wellness and fitness related issues.

My favorite charity.

Posted by: Bruce Bair | Comments Comments Off

My favorite charity has a button in the left column of this blog or link here.  It allows you to give to school kids near you or a place or project you choose.  It is well run, has low overhead, and gets results.  Here are words from their website.

“DonorsChoose(sm) is a simple way to provide students in need with resources that our public schools often lack. At this not-for-profit web site, teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. These ideas become classroom reality when concerned individuals, whom we call Citizen Philanthropists, choose projects to fund.

Proposals range from “Magical Math Centers” ($200) to “Big Book Bonanza” ($320), to “Cooking Across the Curriculum” ($1,100). Any individual can search such proposals by areas of interest, learn about classroom needs, and choose to fund the project(s) they find most compelling. In completing a project, donors receive a feedback package of student photos and thank-you notes, a teacher impact letter, and an expenditure report showing that their tax-deductible gift was spent as directed.”
